ACTUATOR AND ITS ELECTRODES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive actuator that operates stably in the air and has a large displacement amount and generated stress. SOLUTION: The actuator 10 is driven by giving a potential difference between the electrodes 12, 13 which are not in contact with each other and contact and sandwich a polymer solid electrolyte containing an ion liquid and a polymer component as a deformation substance. At least one of the electrodes uses an activated carbon activated by a gas as an active material where (total volume of mesopores of not less than 1 nm and not more than 50 nm in pore diameter)/(total volume of micropores of less than 1 nm in fine pore diameter) is 0.2-0.5.
