The method involves heating a reduction agent storage (6) i.e. container, of an exhaust gas- subsequent treatment device (2) of a drive unit (1) with a waste heat of a vehicle power unit (5) i.e. electrical power generator (15) of a vehicle, where the drive unit exhibits an internal combustion engine. The reduction agent storage discharges ammonia by heat effect. A high temperature fuel cell e.g. solid oxide fuel cell and/or direct-ammonia-fuel cell, is utilized as the power generator. The high temperature fuel cell is operated with excessive ammonia. An independent claim is also included for a device for catalytic purification of exhaust gas of the drive unit of the motor vehicle. |
