摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar illumination device with a simple structure which can emit light with proper color reproducibility and can display high definition images from a liquid crystal display panel. <P>SOLUTION: The illumination device has a light source, constructed of an LED unit and a light guide plate provided with a light incident face, to which light emitted from the light source enters and a light-emitting face for emitting the incident light. The LED unit has a pseudo-white LED chip which emits white light as the light emitted from a blue LED transmits through a phosphor layer, and a blue LED chip which is arranged in the vicinity of the pseudo-white LED chip and emits blue light. If the intensity of peak in the blue wavelength region of light mixing the light emitted from the pseudo-white LED chip and the light emitted from the blue LED chip is set to I<SB>0</SB>and the intensity in the wavelength 580 nm is set to I<SB>580</SB>, I<SB>580</SB>/I<SB>0</SB>>0.6 is satisfied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
