<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform authentication even if an external server fails or communication with the external server fails. <P>SOLUTION: The biometric authentication apparatus checks at predetermined intervals an active status indicating whether or not each external server is operating normally; if each external server is determined to be operating normally, the apparatus receives biological information from a user, transmits the biological information received to each external server, and receives a biometric authentication result from each external server.
