PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating device which does not give rise to appearance defects such as air entrainment or streaky unevenness, even in the case where a continuously running base material is rapidly coated, as well as an advantageous coating method using this coating device. SOLUTION: The continuously running base material is coated with the use of a finish coating device with a slit die for coating the base material by supplying a coating liquid to the surface of the base material and a coating device with a precoating device including not less than one roll, place upstream of the finish coating device. In this case, coating liquids of the same composition type are used by the finish coating device and the precoating device. Besides, the finish coating device applies the coating liquid, while the coating liquid applied by the precoating device is still in a fluid state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
