摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive material suitable for a case material of a positive electrode case type lithium ion secondary battery. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A steel material obtained by heat-treating a steel material having a molten Al-based plated layer is achieved by a modified Al-based plated steel material for a battery case having an Fe-Al-based alloy layer continuously formed on a steel material. Specifically, the steel material having the molten Al-based plated layer with the sticking amount of plating being 5-100 g/m<SP>2</SP>, preferably 15-60 g/m<SP>2</SP>, is heat-treated for 5 minutes to 10 hours within a temperature range from 450°C to a liquidus temperature of plated metal. An Fe-Al-based alloy layer is thereby grown on the steel material to form the modified Al-based plated layer on the steel material serving as a suitable object.
