PURPOSE: A method and a terminal for transmitting characters by a phonemic symbol unit during a chatting service of a wireless messenger are provided to transmit an input character by a phonemic symbol unit, thereby making a partner see a phonemic symbol successively through a chatting window. CONSTITUTION: A method for transmitting characters by a phonemic symbol unit during a chatting service of a wireless messenger comprises the following steps. Whenever a stroke event when a key on a keypad is pressed is generated in an originator side terminal which wants to send a text message(S30), a key value is transmitted to a terminal of a partner to combine phonemic symbols corresponding to a key of the terminal of the partner to make a character(S31,S32).
