PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink supply system capable of easily performing maintenance care of nozzles with a compact mechanism, and to provide an inkjet recorder and a method for purging a printing head. SOLUTION: The inkjet recorder 210 includes a plurality of head units 206A to 206D, an ink supply channel 212 branching and distributing ink to respective printing heads of the head units 206A to 206D from an ink tank 202, and a first step valve mechanism 230 and a second step valve mechanism 240 selectively making the predetermined printing head open. The first step valve mechanism 230 is made a mechanism to selectively open/shut ink flow to the head units 206A to 206D. The second step valve mechanism 240 is made a mechanism to selectively open/shut ink flow to the respective printing heads 208A1 to 208A4, 208B1 to 208B4, 208C1 to 208C4 and 208D1 to 208D4.
