<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-restoring elastomer system and a method for producing a suitable elastomer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The elastomer system includes (a) an elastomer that has a surface and a core in which the core has an elastomer matrix having first functional groups covalently bonded, and (b) a liquid phase bordering on the surface of the elastomer. The liquid phase contains an additive. The first functional groups and the additive are chosen such that, if the elastomer is damaged, the first functional groups that come into contact with the liquid phase come into a reaction.
