363,957. Emptying ships' holds from below. DONALDSON, J., 13, York Street, Glasgow. June 4, 1931, No. 16164. [Class 78 (iv).] In order to facilitate the discharge of bulk cargoes from the holds of ships provided with a central discharge tunnel 6 provided with a conveyer 7, flaps 2 normally resting on the tank top 3 and hinged at 8 are independently raised by lifting gear 10 to move the cargo towards the discharge openings 5 leading to the tunnel. To prevent cargo falling over the abutting edges of the flaps, vertical screens are interposed between the flaps, which are provided with hinged extensions 13 which normally lie across the bilge and are approximately co-planar with the flaps when the latter are tilted. |
