<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain movement between lanes by a structure and a facility of high maintainability with less failure and to attain the efficient operation of a rail mount type portal crane (RMT) in a container yard. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The RMT 1 used for handling containers for marine transportation and moving to the other cargo-handling block 30 in the container yard provided with a plurality of cargo-handling blocks, has a traveling wheel support means (a support part) allowing each traveling wheel to be rotated on a horizontal face to travel on a gently curved intersection rail 27. A lane moving method for the RMT 1 includes steps of allowing the RMT 1 to move by the support part into a switchback area 10 constituted so that travel rails 13 of the adjacent first lane 21 intersect in a gentle curve and allowing the RMT 1 to move into the other second lane 22 from the switchback area 10.
