PURPOSE: An apparatus for processing a digital image and a method for controlling the same are provided to sense an operating state and a motion state of a digital image processor to receive a GPS satellite signal only when location measurement is necessary. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for processing a digital image and a method for controlling the same turn on main power necessary for operating a digital image processor(S405). If a measured walk number is larger than a reference walk number, a location of a digital image processor is measured by a GPS(S435). GPS power is turned off if a set time elapses after the main power is turned off. When the measured walk number is not larger than the reference walk number, a moving distance that the digital image processor moves is compared with a set reference distance.
