PURPOSE: A water pump with a reverse-rotation detector is provided to prevent the malfunction of a detecting device and damage to sensors forming the detecting device by not applying magnetic field and heat generated during the operation of an electric motor on the detecting device. CONSTITUTION: A water pump with a reverse-rotation detector comprises a drive shaft, a housing, and a detecting device. The drive shaft(110) has an impeller formed at one end for the suction and the discharge of fluid. The housing(120) supports the rotation of the drive shaft and a electric motor(130) rotating the drive shaft is built in the housing. The detecting device(140) is installed in the housing to detect the rotation state of the drive shaft. The detecting device includes an auxiliary rotary shaft, an encoder, and a shielding plate. The auxiliary rotary shaft is coupled on the drive shaft and rotates with the drive shaft. The auxiliary rotary shaft is extended inside an another chamber(C2) formed on the top of a chamber(C1) in which the electric motor is installed. The encoder is installed at the chamber to be coupled on the auxiliary rotary shaft and detects the rotation state of the auxiliary rotary shaft. The shielding plate is installed between the encoder and the electric motor.
