PURPOSE: A cancelable face recognition apparatus using a permutation matrix having an inverse matrix and a method thereof are provided to remove the necessity of generating a permutation matrix particularly designed by supplementing the technical contents of a patent application. CONSTITUTION: A cancelable face recognition apparatus using a permutation matrix having an inverse matrix comprises an input unit(10), an image substitution unit(20), a database(30), and a central processing unit(40). Through the input unit, the face image and password of a user are inputted. The image substitution unit generates the permutation matrix having the inverse matrix from the password, and a substituted image by using the permutation matrix and face image.
