PURPOSE: A method for setting a ground fault trip function is provided to interrupt a current to an electric circuit based on a trip characteristic set by the ground fault trip function. CONSTITUTION: A ground fault monitoring system(2) includes a trip device(4). A trip device has a trip element(6) and a processor or CPU(8). The trip device is combined in an electric circuit(10) and a ground fault detector(12). The trip element interrupts the current to the electric circuit based on the trip characteristic set by the ground fault trip function. The ground fault detector monitors the electric circuit about the current leakage to the ground. The ground fault detector activates the trip element by signaling the processor when the current leakage is detected and interrupts the current flow.
