PURPOSE: A slim type optical disc drive is provided to expose a part of the inserted tray when an optical disc is loaded on the tray, thereby reducing the size of portable multimedia device. CONSTITUTION: A slim type optical disc drive comprises a tray(40) for loading an optical disc(20), a spindle motor(42) for rotating the optical disc, and an optical pick-up(41) for reproducing or recording data on the optical disc. The diameter of the tray is smaller than that of the optical disc so that a part of the tray is exposed when the tray loaded with the optical disc is inserted. The optical disc drive also includes a protection cover for the exposed part of the tray.
