The thermogenerator (21) has electrical conductors (4, 5) located respectively above and below an assembly of material pairs, where each pair has P and N type materials (2, 3). Elements (6, 7) having thermal conductive and electrical insulating properties are respectively provided above and below the assembly, such that application of temperature gradient between the elements by cold and hot temperature sources generates electromotive force at an output terminal (8). One of materials of an additional material pair is connected to an additional output terminal of the thermogenerator. An independent claim is also included for a method for optimizing useful power generated by a thermogenerator.
