The method involves processing a probe signal to determine a difference of the signal with respect to an average value when the signal is in a determined state. The difference is sampled according to an operating cycle of a cylinder (Cyl4) for obtaining a difference value (SF-PMHi) associated with one of the determined cylinders for a prescribed number of sampling cycles. An alarm signal is activated for the determined cylinder during the number of times that the output difference value of a prescribed range for the prescribed number of cycles exceeds a prescribed threshold (NB DEFAUTMAX). An independent claim is also included for a device for diagnosing a fuel supplying system of an internal combustion engine.
