<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detector and an object detection method for accurately recognizing various objects, and a periphery monitoring apparatus and a driving support system using an associated object detection. <P>SOLUTION: An object detection wave section 10 recognizes an image captured by a camera 32, identifies an object candidate area, and creates a threshold map for setting a threshold of a radar detection based on a type, a direction, a distance and an angle of the potential object existing in the area. A detecting/processing section 16 compares a reflection wave strength of a radar 31 with the threshold indicated in the threshold map, and detects the existence of the object. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
