<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bleaching assistant composition excellently bleaching wastepaper and a method for bleaching wastepaper. <P>SOLUTION: In the bleaching assistant composition that is used with hydrogen peroxide and bleaches wastepaper, the bleaching assistant composition comprises a transition metal-containing water-soluble salt (A) and a specific aminocarboxylic acid (B). The method for bleaching wastepaper comprises using the bleaching assistant composition.
