PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which processes electronic program guide (EPG) data in which a high-definition television (HDTV) program and a standard-definition television (SDTV) program mingle. SOLUTION: An electronic program guide (EPG) system is disclosed, and the EPG system is adapted to a program in which EPG display formats of a high-definition television (HDTV) program and a standard-definition television (SDTV) program mingle. By using a navigation system such as a remote control or the like, a viewer is able to switch from cell to cell of an EPG display to highlight (high-brightness display) programs of interest. A channel for providing a program in which HDTV programming and SDTV programming mingle separates cells of a grid for a time frame of the SDTV programming; however, these cells are connected into a single cell when the HDTV program is broadcasted.
