<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lateral electric field control type liquid crystal display element capable of preventing the occurrence of irregular display from being generated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element is arranged with a plurality of pixel electrodes 5 for generating a lateral electric field, in a space with respect to a common electrode 4 comprising a conductive film 40 provided with a plurality of slits 41 formed into a continuous shape with one and the other straight line parts 41a, 41a extended along a direction crossed diagonally to orientation-processed directions 1a, 2a of a pair of substrates, between the pair of substrates in parallel each other and orientation-processed reverse-directionally each other, bent parts 41b, 41b extended along a direction crossed with the orientation-processed directions at an angle smaller than a crossing angle of the straight line part 41 to the orientation-processed directions 1a, 2a, with respect to ends adjacent each other of the one and the other straight line parts 41a, 41a, and the orientation-processed directions 1a, 2a, and a connection part 41c of the bent parts 41b, 41b.
