EXTENDING AND CONTRACTING DEVICE AND STRUCTURE FOR BRIDGE

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide extending and contracting device and structure for bridge capable of covering a play section between bridges always for extension and contraction of the bridges in accordance with change of temperature and achieving satisfactory seismic response controlling action when earthquake occurs. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This extending and contracting device 10 for bridge provided between adjacent floor slabs 4 and 4 or in the play section between the floor slab 4 and an abutment 7 to connect them in the direction of bridge axis is provided with bellows 30 constituted by a wall part extended in the vertical direction and having a bent and folded shape when viewed in a plane, a metallic operation member 20 connected with both end parts of the bellows and provided with a fixing part 40 to be buried into the floor slab or the abutment, and an extending and contracting structure part 50 having a part covering the play section along a road surface above the bellows. The operation member 20 is deformed in a stress condition in a scope having no problem with respect to metallic fatigue if degree of extension and contraction in the play section due to change of temperature is small and is plastically deformed if degree of extension and contraction due to vibration caused by earthquake is large to achieve satisfactory seismic response controlling action.
