<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety when a person or an object is caught by stopping or moving a door in an opposite direction with a small number of parts and by a simple configuration. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a safety device, an endless rope 4 is stretched between a drive pulley 2 rotated by a motor 1 and a driven pulley 3, and the door 5 slidably supported is joined to the endless rope 4 to drive the door 5 so as to be opened and closed. When the slide movement of the door 5 is blocked by a predetermined force or larger, the drive pulley 2 is displaced by a pull force of the endless rope 4. The safety device is provided with a detection means 6 for detecting the displacement of the drive pulley 2, and the drive pulley 2 is reversely rotated or stopped based on the detection of the displacement of the drive pulley 2 by the detection means 6.
