<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for reducing power consumption of an image forming apparatus with a monitoring function. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image outputting section 70 for performing an image forming process, a monitoring means (abnormality detection section 90, abnormality diagnosis section 113) for performing a monitoring process to monitor within a monitoring area over a prescribed period when prescribed conditions are fulfilled; a period setting section 112 for setting a monitoring period for performing a monitoring process and a monitoring canceled period when the monitoring process is not performed; and an action state switching section 111 for switching the action state so that the period up to switching of the power consumption to the energy saving state in which the power consumption is reduced to a prescribed level after termination of the monitoring performed during a period which is set as the monitoring period by the period setting section 112 is shorter than the period up to switching of the power consumption to the energy saving state after termination of the image forming process performed during a period which is set as the monitoring canceled period by the period setting section 112. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
