PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle unit allowing both a spindle for a tool and a spindle for a chuck to be attached thereto. SOLUTION: This spindle unit 7 includes a spindle tube 71, a built-in motor 72, and a rotating cylinder 83. Both the spindle 91 for a tool and the spindle for a chuck are attachable to the spindle tube 71. Both the shaft of the spindle for a tool and the shaft of the spindle for a chuck are rotatively driven by the built-in motor 72. Both a push rod and a draw bar are pushed and pulled by the rotating cylinder 83. Also, the spindle unit 7a having the spindle 91 for a tool is used in a machining center, and the spindle unit having the spindle 92 for a chuck and the chuck is used in a lathe, a grinding machine, and a combined machine tool.
