PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an adsorbent excellent in the adsorption capability of heavy metals such as arsenic or antimony by using ferric hydroxide-based precipitates which can be produced stably by neutralization with an abundantly present calcium compound and in which calcium remains. Ž
SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an adsorbent involves neutralizing an aqueous ferric salt solution such as ferric chloride with a super-saturated slurry of slaked lime or calcium carbonate and drying the ferric hydroxide-based precipitates containing remaining calcium and obtained after neutralization. The adsorbent is preferable to contain 1 to 18% of remaining amount of Ca in the ferric hydroxide-based precipitates after drying and it also preferable to carry out the neutralization by adding the super-saturated slurry of slaked lime or calcium carbonate until pH becomes 6 or higher.
