<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a painting method that can form a coating film with high productivity at a low cost and suppress the deterioration of attractive quality caused by chipping. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A member 21 is painted by performing an electrodeposition coating step of forming an electrodeposition coating film 41 on the surface of the member 21 constituting an automotive body by electrodeposition coating, an intermediate coating step of applying an intermediate coating onto the film 41 of the member 21 by directly applying a middle coating, and a top coating step of performing top coating on the member 21 onto which an intermediate coating is applied. In addition, in the intermediate coating step, a first intermediate coating of a similar color as in the top coating paint is applied onto a first region where chipping is liable to occur including at least a food panel 22.
