<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic writing implement, an image reader and a program, capable of reducing a burden of a user, as to change-over when reading one of two different code images. <P>SOLUTION: A mode changing part indicates setting of a code image reading mode to an operation control part (S101), and the operation control part instructs an infrared LED and an infrared CMOS to be set to a content of the code image reading mode. The infrared CMOS reads an image by the code image reading mode (S102), and an image acquisition part acquires the image in every frame unit, to be transferred to an image judging part. The image judging part carries out pattern matching (S103), judges whether the image is a code image or not (S104), and notifies a judged result to a mode changing part.
