<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that smoothes the rough surface layer of a heat roller, resulting from passage of a specific type of paper, and thereby maintains the quality of fixing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixing device 200 includes the heat roller 210, a pressure roller 220, a paper feed cassette 81, a paper-counting section 348, and a polishing roller 240. The heat roller 210 has a main heater 342 and heats the paper. The pressure roller 220 applies pressure to the heat roller 210. The paper feed cassette 81 stores a specific type of paper. The paper counting section 348 counts the specific type of sheets of paper which is picked up in the paper feed cassette 81 and then is passed under the heat roller 210.
