<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing smoke and hot heat generated in the device from being leaked to an outside of the device, and not giving an anxiety to a user, even when trouble occurs to exceed a safe temperature, in an image fixing unit having a heater elevated to high temperatures in usual use. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus having the fixing unit for fixing toner onto a paper sheet by heating and pressurizing the paper sheet transferred with a toner image includes the heater for heating the paper sheet, and a temperature detecting means for detecting the temperature in an inside of the fixing unit, and has an opening and closing shutter for sealing an inlet and an outlet when the temperature detected by the temperature detecting means reaches a set temperature, in the inlet and the outlet of the paper sheet to/from the fixing unit.
