<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water seal abnormality detection method for recovering surplus water 11 overflowed from a water seal device to a water level detection tank 6, automatically detecting water level abnormality of the water level detection tank 6, eliminating need of continuous monitoring by a monitoring person by automatically issuing an alarm and notifying people in the pipe of the water level abnormality alarm in an early stage. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The water seal device shuts a gas flow by storing water for water sealing in a curve part of a gas transport pipe. The water sealing abnormality detection method of the gas water seal device recovers the surplus water which is the overflowed water for water sealing to the water level detection tank and detects the water level abnormality depending on storing time of the surplus water in the water level detection tank and issues the alarm.
