Provided is a device state detecting device hardly requiring a liver to learn a combination of the operating states of all the devices at home and producing few estimation errors even if an unknown device operates. The device state detecting device includes a measuring means (110) for measuring physical quantities of the environment where devices are placed, a feature value calculating means (120) for calculating the feature values of the values measured by the measuring means (110), a storage means (140) for previously storing the feature values of the respective devices and the device states corresponding to the feature values as a reference device entry dictionary (200), and a device state detecting means (130) for searching the reference device entry dictionary (200) for a stored feature value by using the feature value calculated by the feature value calculating means (120) as a search key, and for detecting the device state according to the device state corresponding to the feature value searched for.
