<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display excellent in color viewing angle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes at least a pair of polarizers 10 and 11, a liquid crystal cell LC interposed between the polarizers, optical anisotropic layers 14 and 15 interposed between each of the pair of polarizers and the liquid crystal cell, and a backlight unit (BL) disposed on the outside of the polarizer on the rear side out of the pair of polarizers. The liquid crystal display satisfies expression (1): Re(450)/Re(650)<1.25, wherein Re(450) and Re(650) are an in-plane retardation at a wavelength of 450 nm and an in-plane retardation at a wavelength of 650 nm in the optical anisotropic layers, respectively and satisfies expression (2): 1.1<I(450)/I(550)<5.0, wherein I(450) and I(550) are light intensity of incident light at a wavelength of 450 nm and light intensity of light at a wavelength of 550 nm incident on the liquid crystal cell from directions of an azimuth of 0° and a polar angle of 45°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
