PACKET BUFFER MANAGEMENT APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING DISCARDING OF ARRIVAL PACKET AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING DISCARDING OF ARRIVAL PACKET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine discarding of an arrival buffer using an index different from a queue length of a packet buffer.

SOLUTION: When a new packet arrives, a packet buffer management apparatus obtains a residence time, in a packet buffer, of at least one packet stored in the packet buffer for temporarily storing packets. In a case where the residence time satisfies a discarding condition of the new packet, the new packet is discarded. In a case where the residence time does not satisfy the discarding condition, it is determined to store the new packet in the packet buffer. In a state where a time of arrival is added to the new packet determined to be stored, the new packet is stored in the packet buffer.
