PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid jet apparatus capable of solving a backward flow of fluid at maintenance, which is caused by the air exclusively existing in the passage when setting unused nozzle arrays, and a maintenance method for a fluid jet apparatus. SOLUTION: A printer is equipped with a storage head 3 comprising a plurality of nozzle arrays 50 for jetting ink and a communicating passage 70 set for each nozzle array 50, with its one end side connected to the nozzle arrays 50, and with a capping mechanism 14 for sucking ink from each nozzle array 50 through the capping member 15 in contact with the storage head 3. The printer is constituted of a valve 80, set in a communication passage 70a of the plurality of communication passages 70, for adjusting the passage area of the passage to a prescribed area, and of a control unit for controlling the drive of the valve 80 depending on the drive of the capping mechanism 14.
