<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic key system which can accurately notify a user of the timing of use of a mechanical key provided in an electronic key for being used, for example, when a vehicle cannot be operated via radio communication between the key and the vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A key cylinder 35 of a vehicle outside door handle knob 15 is provided with a display section 38 which employs an LED etc. as a light source. When smart communication is performed between the vehicle 1 and a portable unit 4, the display section 38 is lit in the case that the vehicle 1 operates not to be able to receive an entire radio signal transmitted from the portable unit 4 because the communication is intercepted by noise on a way through the communication though the communication is started once. Thus, since a door lock should be opened and shut by a mechanical operation type emergency key provided in the portable unit 4 without the use of the smart communication in the case of the failure of the smart communication, the lighting of the display section 38 urges the user to use the emergency key in the case of the failure of the smart communication. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
