<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LED element that emits light from its luminescence surface in a specified direction, and in particular, is concentrated in the direction of a normal line. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided an LED element, wherein a metallic layer 200, made of a metal, is laminated on a light-emitting surface which is other than the part of an electrode 106. The metallic layer 200 is the LED element, having a structure that changes periodically in cycle length of Λ±10% defined by Formula (2). In the Formula (2), m is a natural number, k<SB>sp</SB>is the wavenumber of surface plasmon, ω is the frequency, c is the speed of light in vacuum, ε<SB>m</SB>is the complex dielectric constant of metal, and ε<SB>d</SB>is the dielectric constant of air. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
