<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for rationally and quantitatively predicting a patent possibility. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A patentability predicting device is connected to a patent database 200. The patentability predicting device acquires first a patent application (a notified application) already notified of an examination result from the patent database 200 (S1), and detects the amount of information (the prior information amount) of predetermined claims on the notified application and the number of prior applications similar to the notified application (the number of prior similar applications) respectively (S2). The patentability predicting device then carries out a regression analysis for a plurality of notified applications, and computes a registration foreknowledge expression showing the correlation of the number of prior similar applications, the prior information amount and a result index value (S3). The patentability predicting device detects the information amount (the verification information amount) of the predetermined claims on the patent application (the verification application) whose patent possibility is to be predicted, and the number of prior applications similar to the verification applications (the number of verification similar applications) respectively (S4), and computes a predicted value showing the patent possibility of the verification application from the amount of verification information, the number of verification similar applications and the registration foreknowledge expression (S5).
