PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focus controller and an electronic camera, capable of surely tracking with respect to various moving objects that differ in states as being capable of focus. SOLUTION: An automatic focus control device (3 to 5, 17, 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, and 32) includes an optical system (3 to 5), capable of controlling the focus and a control means (21), and the control means selects a focus control algorithm for use in focus control of the optical system from among a plurality of algorithms, on the basis of a plurality of pieces of scene determination information and performs focus control of the optical system so that an optical image of a subject is continued being focused.
