PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide resin particle dispersions with uniform particle diameters, resin particles and a method of producing them. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method of producing the resin particles by dispersing a resin (a) or its solution in a solvent and/or a precursor (a0) of the resin (a) or its solution in a solvent in an aqueous medium or an aqueous dispersion (D2) of the resin particles, further reacting a precursor (a0), when the precursor (a0) or its solution in a solvent is used, to form an aqueous dispersion of the resin particles, and by removing the aqueous medium and the solvent, as needed, from the aqueous dispersion. In the method, the aqueous medium or the aqueous dispersion (D2) of the resin particles contains a particular anionic surfactant (X).
