<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a refined product containing substantially no residual solvent since in case 5-hydroxy-1-methylhydantoin is recrystallized using an organic solvent such as acetone and ethyl acetate, a considerable amount of the recrystallization solvent remains and it is not acceptable for a pharmaceutical product which is required high safety especially as a material of a medicine for kidney failure, although it is preferable for a compound used in a pharmaceutical product to reduce noxious residual solvent etc., as little as possible, especially in kidney failure patients because of impairment of renal function, waste matter and noxious substance are not discharged but accumulate in their bodies, therefore, noxious residual solvent etc., of the medicine for kidney failure etc., must be reduced as much as possible. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this production method of 5-hydroxy-1-methylimidazolidine-2,4-dione crystal, recrystallization of 5-hydroxy-1-methylimidazolidine-2,4-dione is carried out using water as a recrystallization solvent.
