PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power supply unit that accomplishes miniaturization and increased output by suppressing a peak current even under heavy load. SOLUTION: The switching power supply unit includes a rectifier circuit, which rectifies a commercial power source, and a step-down chopping converter, which supplies the output of the rectifier circuit to a transformer through step-down chopping by driving switching elements. The power supply unit is also provided with a control circuit, which controls the drive of the switching elements. The control circuit drives the switching elements in a current critical mode in light load and drives the elements in a current continuous mode in heavy load. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
