PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of a required catalyst and to stably produce a polyether having a reduced viscosity, namely, a narrow molecular weight distribution, in a high conversion rate over a long period by using a catalyst with suppressed deterioration of catalyst performances with time in a process for producing the polyether comprising subjecting a cyclic ether to a ring opening polymerization in the presence of the catalyst. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyether comprises use of a solid acid catalyst substantially having a potential of carrying out a ring opening polymerization of the cyclic ether, wherein the catalyst is set to contain one or more kind of metal elements excluding alkaline metals, having 0.9-1.3 of electronegativity of Pauling, as the catalyst for producing the polyether by ring opening polymerization of the cyclic ether.
