<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for growing microorganisms producing high concentration omega-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids. <P>SOLUTION: The microorganisms containing high concentration omega-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids are obtained by growing the microorganisms in fermentation medium containing non-chloride sodium salts, particularly sodium sulfate. The microorganisms are selected from the order of Thraustochytriales and have the following characteristics: (a) to be possible to heterotrophically grow, (b) to have high content of the omega-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids, (c) to be possible to grow at a temperature equal to or higher than 30°C and (d) to be euryhaline. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
