<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-lifetime optical fiber component, in which the attachment of chemical compounds of C, H and O on the end face of an optical fiber, particularly on its core part, is prevented and the optical transmission characteristic of the optical fiber is maintained for a long time, and to provide an optical module that uses the optical fiber component. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber component 1 comprises: the optical fiber 10 which transmits light; and a coreless fiber 20 which is connected to the end face 10a of the optical fiber to prevent attachment of foreign materials to the end face 10a. The optical fiber 10 and the coreless fiber 20 are connected by fusing the end face 20a of one end of the coreless fiber 20 to the end face 10a of the optical fiber 10. The core part of the end face 10a of the optical fiber 10 is not exposed to air. Furthermore, the power density of incident light on the core 11 of the optical fiber 10 is further markedly reduced, than in the case where there is no coreless fiber 20 so that the chemical compounds of C, H and O will not adhere to the core of the optical fiber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
