PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing flat-formed particles. SOLUTION: This method for producing the flat-formed particles is characterized by comprising a process of adding a monomer mixture containing a 1 to 2.5 wt.% cross-linkable monomer and a≥50 wt.% styrene-based monomer into an aqueous medium in which seed particles and a water soluble polymerization initiator are present, and performing the seed polymerization of the monomer mixture to produce the flat-formed particles, wherein, the monomer mixture is subjected to the seed polymerization after adding the whole of the mixture to the aqueous medium in a lump, or subjected to the seed polymerization after adding at least 50% of its total amount and then again subjected to the seed polymerization after adding the residual amount.
