PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply a printing plate having positioning means to ensure extension of the printing plate. SOLUTION: The printing plate 28 is prealigned on stoppers 30, 31 outside the plate cylinder with a lateral offset and with an oblique skew along with the final alignment. Then the printing plate 28 is fed, in such lateral offset and oblique skew, to the register pins 43, 44 of the plate cylinder, wherein the printing plate 28 is finally aligned by lateral displacement at the time of collision with the first register pin 43 and by a pivoting movement about the register pin 43, until the printing plate 28 bears with its receptacles against both register pins.
