Provided is an active matrix type display device equipped with a COG type circuit for driving a data signal line and an optical sensor which outputs a signal according to the detected light intensity to a display region. The circuit for driving a data signal line is equipped with an analog-digital conversion circuit for performing analog-digital conversion of the output of the optical sensor, and is driven in such a manner that the voltage of a common electrode (COM) changes. The analog-digital conversion circuit performs analog-digital conversion of the output of the optical sensor in a first period where a timing of starting the selection of a scan signal line, a period wherein a data signal is outputted to a data signal line, and a timing in which the voltage of the common electrode changes are excluded. Consequently, a display device having a function of performing analog-digital conversion on the output of an optical sensor and can provide a COG technology is implemented.
