<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To personalize a retrieval result so that word-of-mouth information is ranked high out of a large number of documents and data. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When retrieval conditions are input, retrieval is performed with documents of close persons as retrieval objects sequentially from persons closer in social relation to a retriever set as a starting point, and scores are computed on the retrieved documents. A distance to the retriever is extended to enlarge a search range. At this time, the maximum score that can be taken by the distance is computed, and when there is no possibility of the maximum score exceeding a minimum score, search is ended, and the N documents ranked high are output as a retrieval result.
